The reissue of these vintage recordings available from Olive Branch Records collection represents some bold and provocative experiments of jazz guitarist Calvin Keys. The collaborations with Billy Osbourne on Maria’s First, A New Beginning and Back Door Keys provide a more accessible format for the gifted guitarist. On Nigerian Marketplace, The Oscar Peterson classic, Keys is impeccable. Too Late Now, from Royal Wedding, is an excellent ballad for the Keys touch. Salmon Croquettes, an original Calvin Keys composition, swings like mad. This quartet also features John Heard on acoustic bass, Sherman Ferguson on drums and Lew Matthews on piano. In You Are All I Need, Bus Scene, Growing Pains, Love In Your Eyes, Touch and Dantu, the Calvin Keys style is indelibly impressed on the listener as a jazz guitarist who can do it all. Without a doubt, this eclectic mixture of jazz genre is a dynamite showcase for the prodigious talents of the great jazz guitarist, Calvin Keys.
